Ethan is 9 today

Pancake Batter all over the kitchen! Presents! Pandemonium!

And among the wonderful presents, one that means fun and peaceful drumming for the whole household. Electronic Drums. No more barking and “SHUUUUT UP, PUCK!” during drum practice. Last night we were treated to a song composed on the spot, and performed (Drum and Vocal) by Ethan about all the top ten presents on his wish list.

Happy Birthday, my son.

Nick’s 45th Birthday!

Thanks so much to Karen & Pete for hosting a perfect party, and to the mighty Hickeys for babysitting, and Dave on Barbie Duty! I couldnt have had a better time. Thanks to everyone who came and especially those who travelled a long way to be there, like John Travis, Steve and Stace! You’re all ace. I dont know how I got to be so lucky, to have such a fine bunch around me, but I feel very thankful.

Thanks to John C for the fine photos!

A cake you can hit with a hammer

Ethan loved his party. Let me tell you something about the cake. Fiona made a Chocolate Pinåta cake. I need you to understand that this is a cake above all cakes. It doesn’t just have nice tastes, it has features and benefits. For a start, get your head around this: this is a cake you are supposed to hit with a hammer!

It’s a chocolate shell (ie real chocolate), covered in chocolate smarties, ladybirds and so on. You smash this with a (real) hammer, and it reveals, under its thick chocolate shell the size of a GI helmet, a chocolate cake, with chocolate icing, and chocolate filling. And it’s covered in more yet smarties, chocolate ladybirds and other chocolate-based objects.

I don’t know where we are going to go from here. Last year, the space shuttle cake, this year the chocolate pinåta.

What next?
