Eating up Barcelona

From our base, in our gorgeous apartment on Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia, we ate and cooked our way across Barcelona.

Perfect

The passion for food is evident in all the marvellous fresh produce markets…

The egg seller had emu, ostrich and a rare swan egg (at 50 euros)
Fruits of the forest, including bags of snails and edible wildflowers.
Seafood; always my favourite part of the market

We joined a cooking school at La Boqueria market.

Seafood paella – of course. Plus Creme Catalan and gazpacho and potato tortilla.

The architecture is not too shabby either…

There’s the genius of Gaudi…

The engineering brilliance of Gaudi, who inverted his cathedral design to understand loads and supports.

And then there’s the beauty and art that is inside all of us…

Manscaping the Italian way

When in Rome…. find the most highly rated Roman barber and present your hirsute features for an Italian makeover.

This was very serious business… as the photos show.

Nick’s verdict:  Best barber ever!

Max and Jo Barber Shop.

Villa in Tuscany

So let’s be clear… the whole reason we made this trip to Europe was to celebrate Sally’s 50th birthday in a villa in Tuscany.  Pour me another glass of Chianti to toast Sal and the good fortune that makes it possible for us to come together and live this dream.

Sally and her Tuscan villa

And the villa wasn’t too shabby either….
